Yesterday, I took my four-year-old daughter for a mommy/ daughter pedicure. The lady taking care of us told my girl, “You’re so pretty. Don’t get fat.”
Excuse me?
That just happened. I didn’t even know what to say. Luckily my daughter, who is tall and skinny and built like a ballerina, let it blow over and didn’t really think about what the rude, judgmental lady told her.
This is the world we live in. A complete stranger has the nerve to say something to my pre-schooler that could potentially impact her self-esteem and cause body image issues.
We’ve been to this salon before and I actually love it, so I’m really disappointed something like this happened.
I could go on about why that comment was so wrong, but we all know that already.
Lesson learned from this post: Random people are going to tell our children things that we don’t agree with and as parents, we are going to have to raise them to know in advance that certain things are just absurd and not the truth.
