Secret: I’m Seeking a Literary Agent

Since I ambitiously announced that I started to write a new book, I’ve actually written five chapters! I have a long way to go, but progress is progress!

I have yet to reveal the topic of this book, but I will say that I am hoping to take this the traditional publishing route. I’ve always self-published. When I wrote Trash the Dress: Stories of Celebrating Divorce in yours 20s, I signed with an agent who kept me in a contract for two years and didn’t return my phone calls or emails. I lost opportunities for reality TV shows to be developed around the book because I passed off inquiries from TV producers to her, and then never heard back. As soon as I was free from the contract, I began taking steps to self-publish the Trash the Dress and literally sent it to final press the day before my daughter, Genevieve, was born.

Since that time, I always opted to self-publish. However, I think that I’m ready to try to get an agent again. Now, I work in the book industry and have been a book publicist for a little over four years. I have more knowledge of the pros and cons of both self-publishing and going the traditional publishing route. I have more resources. And probably more competition. But, I’m up for the challenge and I’m ready to do my research (not just sign with the first person someone connects me to again!).  I plan to take my time, learn, get turned down, and get back up again until the universe lays out the path I’m mean to follow to publish this book!

Thanks for following along on my journey of dream chasing! Writing is my self-care. It brings me joy, allows me to be creative, and connects me to a community of like-minded women. I can’t wait to bring my next book into the world and tell you more about it!
